End-to-end by design
Keys are agreed by the two devices (X25519), every chunk is sealed with AES-256-GCM, and each file is verified on arrival. No cloud, no relay, no telemetry.
How Cursor transfers folders between two PCs
Cursor is a peer-to-peer folder transfer tool for Windows. Both PCs run the same app, so every install is a sender and a receiver. Files never touch a cloud server: bytes travel over an encrypted direct socket, and received photos and videos can be streamed in the built-in viewer before they are copied.
- Listen — Cursor joins your private tailnet and shows a code like CODE@100.x.x.x. (Both PCs)
- Share — The code already carries the destination address. One paste works from any network. (Anywhere)
- Request — Sender ships the folder manifest: names, sizes, structure only. (Sender → Receiver)
- Approve — Receiver inspects the tree and accepts within 60 seconds. (Receiver)
- Stream — Files move in 1 MiB chunks, written straight to disk. (Direct socket)
- Resume — A dropped link continues from the exact byte already stored. (Both PCs)
